The combination of the titanium face and larger body give the Cobra King Speedzone a somewhat metallic sound. Don’t get me wrong, they won’t save you from a super steep swing straight down into the ground behind the ball, but they will make a big difference when you take a shallow divot, hit out of the rough, or maybe need to launch a long one out of a fairway bunker. The result is crisp contact and better response from the face. What these rails do is glide through the turf so the face stays more level with the ball for cleaner contact. You can’t talk about a Cobra hybrid with Baffler Rails without talking about turf interaction! The functional reason for Cobra’s Baffler rail system is to make the club more efficient through the turf. While I can’t prove that number scientifically, I will agree that the face is certainly hot. Cobra claims the hot spot to be 70% larger (!) because of this design choice. In fact, by making the rails hollow, the Baffler Rails are able to flex more which increases the hot spot on the face. Some of this is because of the low and back CG, but the hollow Split Rails play a huge role in this feeling. Also, the face is fairly forgiving as you venture away from the center. All I can say is that it does actually feel like the ball seriously jumps off of the face at impact. Flip the club over and you’ll find the familiar Baffler Rails and a red sole weight to position the center of gravity (CG) low and back in the head.Ĭobra used a higher strength forged stainless steel face in the Speedzone hybrid to not only make it stronger, but to promote faster ball speeds and to help with the launch.

The face depth is also somewhat mid-range with a smooth transition from the black face into the matte black crown. This larger footprint inspires confidence behind the ball but also plays a role in making the club more forgiving and easier launching. I would say it’s fair to put this club in the “mini fairway wood” category in terms of profile. The first thing you will notice is that, yes, the Cobra King Speedzone is a slightly on the larger size for a hybrid. If you’re a player that prefers their hybrid to fit more of a mini fairway wood role in your bag, you’ll want to learn more about this club. Utilizing a lot of the same technology as the Speedzone fairway wood, the Speedzone hybrid is long and easy to launch in the air. Those are some of the words I’d use to describe the Cobra King Speedzone hybrid.
